Innovative ‘Waste to Wealth’ and ‘Waste to Art’ Initiatives Promote Resource Conservation, Waste Reuse and Technical Skill Development
Rampur, September: In accordance with the directions of the Ministry of Power and the Corporate Office, Rampur HPS is observing the Swachhta Hi Seva (SHS) Campaign-2026 from 17 September to 2 October 2026. As part of the campaign, the project is undertaking a “Swachhta Se Samriddhi—Waste to Wealth and Art Drive” to promote scientific waste management, reuse and recycling of waste materials.
As part of this initiative, an innovative effort was undertaken on 29 September under the guidance of Project Head, Rampur HPS, Er. Vikas Marwah. The initiative was carried out through the dedicated efforts of the Head of Department, officers and employees of the PHEM Department under the theme “Kabad Se Jugaad” (Waste to Utility).
Under the initiative, a permanent mechanical training and demonstration model has been developed by technically reusing components from an unused 400 kV GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) circuit breaker pole. Instead of treating the discarded components merely as waste requiring disposal, their technically useful parts were identified and put to productive use.
The newly developed model will provide a practical learning platform for newly inducted employees, enabling them to understand the structure of a GIS circuit breaker, its various internal components, assembly and working mechanism in a simple and practical manner.
The model will also help reduce dependence on operational equipment for training purposes and provide employees with practical technical exposure in a safe and controlled environment. The initiative is expected to contribute towards the conservation of resources, reduction of waste, cost effectiveness and enhancement of technical knowledge, while simultaneously demonstrating the productive reuse of discarded technical material.
Rampur HPS is also exploring possibilities of converting other available obsolete technical components into similar training and demonstration modules in the future, thereby further strengthening the culture of reuse and resource optimisation within the project.
Students Transform Waste Materials into Attractive Artworks
As part of the same campaign, a “Waste to Art” competition was organised at Government Senior Secondary School, Randal, with the objective of encouraging the creative talent of children and developing a sense of environmental responsibility among students.
During the competition, students transformed discarded and seemingly unusable materials into attractive and useful artworks through their creativity, imagination and hard work.
The students not only prepared decorative and utility items from waste materials but also conveyed important messages on environmental protection and the responsible reuse of waste through their creative works.
In the competition, Raunak Sharma of Class 11th secured the first position, Anveet Singh of Class 7th secured the second position, and Aman of Class 7th secured the third position. Ankita Soni and Piyush were awarded consolation prizes.
Speaking on the occasion, Project Head, Rampur HPS, Er. Vikas Marwah, said that the “Kabad Se Jugaad” initiative of Rampur Hydroelectric Station is a meaningful step towards converting waste into utility. He said that the initiative promotes not only cleanliness and environmental protection but also technical training and institutional knowledge enhancement.
He appreciated the Head of PHEM Department, Shri Sanjeev Sharma, and his team for their innovative efforts and said that converting unused material into a useful training and demonstration model is an exemplary initiative towards judicious utilisation of resources, reduction of waste and cost effectiveness.
Er. Vikas Marwah further stated that “Kabad Se Jugaad” is not merely a demonstration of creativity, but an effective way of putting the concept of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle into practice. The greater the reuse of available materials, he said, the less waste will be generated, thereby contributing towards creating a cleaner and safer environment.
The programme was attended by the Head of Department, PSIT & C, Quality and Safety, Rampur HPS, Bayal, Er. Roshan Kumar, along with the Principal and teachers of Government Senior Secondary School, Randal, and officers and employees of Rampur HPS.
